Panel of the Week

Posted by Chris On June - 30 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

This week, we bring you images from Invincible #72, written by Robert Kirkman and drawn by Ryan Ottley. These are probably some of the most graphic, goriest images I have seen in my comics in a long while. This takes place during the Viltrumite War, in which our hero, Invincible, is trying to fend off warriors from his father’s home planet in the depths of space. If you can’t handle the sight of blood or internal organs being pulled out of someone’s body, don’t click these thumbnails!

I love Little Big Planet and I love these cute new Marvel skins for the game.  Looks like Marvel will be revealing a new hero/villain tomorrow too!

Check out the details here.

Wonder Woman’s new look

Posted by Noah On June - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Fan favorite artist Jim Lee has changed an icon. He’s redesigned Wonder Woman’s entire costume.  Something thing they only attempted once before post-crisis. and that was a 90s failure.  Starting with issue #600, Wonder Woman will have a new look and a new direction with writer J.M. Straczynski at the helm.

I’m not digging the costume Jim. Sorry.

The premise sounds very interesting to me. I’m always a sucker for time travel/what if scenarios.  The thing I am concerned about is if it’s a self contained arc or if it will be something effecting the DCU as a whole. This is what DC had to say in regards to the new direction:

Suppose someone went back in time and changed one thing, and it changed your life to the point that you had little or no memory of what life had been like before the change happened. What would you do to get it back? Should you get it back? Who did it? And maybe more important…why did they do it?

That is the question faced by Diana starting in issue 600.

The Gods, for reasons of their own but which may have something to with their survival and perhaps the survival of Earth itself, have changed the timeline. In the new timeline, years ago the Gods removed their protection from Paradise Island, and left it vulnerable to attack. And attacked it was. Led by a dark figure, a veritable army descended upon the Island, equipped with weapons that could kill even the Amazons. Outgunned, doomed, Hippolyta gave over her three-year-old daughter to a handful of guardians who spirited her away as Hippolyta led one last desperate battle against the forces that had come to destroy all she had created. In that final battle, she and most of the Amazons were killed, though some managed to escape.

It’s now nearly twenty years later. Diana has been raised in an urban setting, but with a foot in both worlds. She has little or no memory of the other timeline. She knows only what she’s been told by those who raised her On the run, hunted, she must try to survive, help the other refugee Amazons escape the army that is still after them, discover who destroyed Paradise Island and why…and if the timeline can be corrected or not. She also does not yet have access to her full powers, but will be gaining them as she goes. Along the way, she will face a range of enemies — human and otherwise — who we have not seen before.

Emma Frost Cast

Posted by Ashlee On June - 29 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Looks like Alice Eve from the movie “She’s Out of My League” will be joining the cast of X-men: First Class. I’m curious to see what her role in the movie will be as we all know Emma was not an X-men during those early days of X-men history- I’m guessing she’ll be a villain?

As far as the casting choice goes… I’m not sure how I feel about this- she looks a little too wholesome to be such a manipulative bitch.

So far DC’s doing a fairly great job picking story arcs for adaptation. Granted the execution has been hit or miss. I’m looking at you Superman:Doomsday. I’m not real sure why it’s Apocalypse and not Apokalips, but maybe there’s a reason I don’t know. Some good news for JL fans is the rumored casting. According to IMDB Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy are slated to voice their roles from JL once again. Conroy can be Batman as long as he want as far as I’m concerned.

The film will be an adaptation of the The Supergirl from Krypton story arc that ran in the Superman/Batman series. The story arc was originally penned by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Michael Turner.

The Superman Homepage has discovered that this new animated movie will be released on September 28, 2010.

Andrew Lincoln  as Rick Grimes (Pretty great casting I think)

Random Zombie

and writer Robert Kirkman surrounded by his undead creations come to life.

Wonder Woman:XXX

Posted by Noah On June - 26 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Well you knew it was coming after the success of Batman:XXX.

According to Rich Johnson over at BleedingCool.com Tori Black and Vivid Entertainment have beaten Lauren Donner and WB to the punch when it comes to a Wonder Woman movie.

This is one of the images that Ms. Black posted of herself in the movie costume. Unfortunately they seem to have reduced to the costume to a pale shadow of itself.

Where the Batman:XXX costumes were top notch with only slight modifications the Wonder Woman version looks ridiculously low quality. I expect much more from my parody porn to be honest.

The saddest part is Ms. Black has actually posed in a WW costume before and it looked significantly better in comparison without being a direct rip from the comic version.

Although I admit the sexual exploits  in Batman:XXX weren’t  all that special the production values were off the charts. Lets hope that Wonder Woman:XXX at least succeeds at at one of them.

“I want to produce Wonder Woman”

Posted by Ashlee On June - 26 - 2010 2 COMMENTS

Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of the X-men series, is apparently campaigning to produce our favorite superhero princess. I know it’s hard to get Wondy fans excited about a movie that’s been in developmental hell for YEARS, but here’s hoping. But don’t think we want just anyone to make this movie. I was looking through her IMDB list and got a little freaked out – Hotel for Dogs… Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant… X-men Origins: Wolverine… and the love it or hate it X-men trilogy. Though I think she deserves some praise for her past work on You’ve Got Mail and Free Willy, it seems her best work is way behind her. She also had this to say about her vision for Diana:

Donner’s version would even be open to women of all types. Princess Diana is usually portrayed as a Caucasian woman, but in 2010 Donner sees a multi-ethnic Wonder Woman. “Oh, definitely. I would hope all movies are. Really, I think all movies should reflect the world.”

I’m not sure what she means by “multi-ethnic”… but I fully support a Mediterranean casting choice – the last thing we need is an ex-OC actress flopping around in WW’s bustier. However, I don’t want her to be multi-ethnic for political reasons- just let her actress choice make SENSE.

Let me leave you with a quote that gives me hope:

“I’m campaigning to produce Wonder Woman for DC and Warners,” Donner said on June 24 in Burbank, Calif. at the Saturn Awards. “They don’t want it, but I just think she’s the greatest character. She’s right up there, as you know, with Superman and Batman, the three of them. I want to produce Wonder Woman.”

What I want most of all is for this movie to be in the hands of someone who loves and respects her character, and Lauren obviously does.
